What’s happened?!

Ok, basically - I completely messed up my previous theme by not saving any of the previous PHP code. So now I have this simple theme.

So, to avoid headaches, I’ve decided to start a new blog. This one is getting a little cluttered and I think a fresh one would be a good idea for Uni next year! Another good reason is the fact that this blog is on Wordpress 2.2.2 and I can’t seem to update it!!

I guess this is the last post on this blog then, then I’ll be throwing it away in the arrrrchives. Once the new blog comes it will replace this URL so no need for any searching!

…Until next blog!

The Experiment: Day 10… Stats!

Its been awhile since I’ve updated you on what’s happening with imagebash. It’s been going for just over a week now and I have had an astonishing 2669 unique page visitors. That is pretty good considering it has only been going since the 8th Sept. Ive been having a regular stream of visitors the first half of the week but found if I didn’t continually promote the site everyday my traffic figures drop considerably. Below you can see the current stats concerning visitors and the deep fall when I didn’t continue promoting for a few days…

unique!

Noticeably here I have had a lot of views and you’d think, for all these views, I’d get quite a bit of adbrite revenue via ad views. Well as it happens I’ve currently hit the $1.47 mark. After a week of promoting the site, I’ve become tiresome of work I put in to achieve revenue - so I’ve had the bright idea of selling the site in mid October when I have a better idea of what is happening with traffic. I hope it to fetch at least $80 or more with the current state of traffic.

In other news, I’ve taken an interest in what Phil’s doing at the moment concerning ‘site flipping‘ and have been helping him with some CSS difficulties and wordpress headaches! Site flipping involves investing money into a domain name, and then building a site/blog with some interesting content to later sell to a interested buyer. It’s the same idea as property development really, on a smaller scale, on the net! If he does a good job and sells well I think I’ll give it a ‘bash’ in the not so distant future. May be a good little money earner! Just need to find some decent niche markets.

Welcome, to the End of the World!

This is a nice bit of 3D generated material showing how the world is going to end, with the help of a asteroid hitting the Earth. Its possible.

Mr Bean’s Bear - SOLD!

Mr Bean’s well known companion has been sold at a special toy auction.

Rowan Atkinson donated the bear and then it sold for £180. Quite a good bargain some might say for memorabilia such as this. The sale went ahead due to the Teddy Bear Museum in Stratford-upon-Avon closing down after 21 years. Former MP Gyles Brandreth started the Teddy Bear Museum with his wife Michele in 1987. Apparently the bears he sold were from his personal collection and could no longer be kept at home because their wasn’t enough room.

Mr Bean

The interesting thing they found was that a 11ft teddy bear that sat outside the museum didn’t sell. Well I wouldn’t be honestly surprised - who would want/have the room for a bear that big?

Wouldn’t be surprised if we see an eBay auction of this in the near future!

Boycotting EA?

Let me outline… EA (Electronic Arts, game developer) have been ridiculed by fans and consumers for their new step on stopping piracy by using a DRM (Digital Rights Management) system. The new system will be implemented into new game versions Mass Effect and Spore and require the user to go online and put in serial codes as often seen on PC games. Understandably some are quite frustrated at this because not everyone has access to the internet via a games console, which will ultimately mean the game can’t be played without a net connection.

This is a tough issue that EA are dealing with, but I personally don’t think its a good thing to do. There will always be piracy whether they like it or not, no? This will only give the pirates more of a challenge to overcome. Then, when it is, we’ll be back to square one.

Fans of both Mass Effect and Spore have voiced their opinions in a boycott of Spore’s Amazon reviews. With an almost 1,300 posts rating 1 star, and a mere 31 posts rating 5 stars I think EA have to rethink.

The Experiment: Day 2… Revenue!

Yes, it’s true, but no it’s not something to be that proud of. I have earned a total revenue of $0.03 in the last 2 days. To show that this is no lie I’ve even put a screeny below. Wow, 2cents - that’s like 2 cola bottles in 2003… oh well, promotion must go on…

Jealous much?

The Experiment: imagebash.com

Hello fellow readers… (if I have any)

I have started to conduct an experiment. An experiment involving getting money via internet ads. When I was reading Mubin Ahmed’s internet blog (an experienced net money maker) I got inspired myself to try and make some of that internet money thats supposedly so easy to get your hands on if you “know how”.

After reading many success stories, I came across his eBook on “How to make money online with an image hosting site”. This originally cost money but he made a fair bit from it over the years so now it’s free. A very simple, informative eBook telling you how to set up an image hosting site from initial template to site promotion. So like the interested ape that I am, I jumped on it and created my own.

Image Hosting Site? Image Hosting sites are more commonly used by forum users and people looking to upload an image to the net quickly and without the hassles of Facebook albums or attaching it to an email.

First off I downloaded the recommended PHP template for the site and went through the steps (having a small headache with the database side of things). Once the main template was online I did various tweaks to personalise it through some intense image swapping here and there. At this point I was pretty happy with the state I was at, and it was time to choose a domain name. I’d chosen a domain name before (bombfish.com) but hadn’t anticipated how long a laborious it was. Eventually, 4 days later, I came up with imagebash.com - I figured it was catchy and could be related to image hosting.

I’d already spent far to long on the setting up of this little ‘experiment’ only to realise it was time to ad the ADS. I’ve currently chosen adbrite as the primary advert dealer churning me out various dating and money making banners. One unanticipated problem that arose was simply aligning the ads up properly (I despise CSS) so finally today I have cracked it and it looks super neat.

Great, so now your up to speed on the experiment - Got my site, got my domain, got my ads. Now I need to promote the site to get those all important views and (hopefully) clicks! I am bearing in mind, however, that I will be making about 2 cents every 4 days. Not worth it you say, true, but this is all a bit of a play around to see if its possible!

Spread the word: Imagebash.com the best image hosting site on the internet!

Who’s a nerd? I’m a nerd.

Yeah I might as well accept that statement. I’ve recently bought another 22″ monitor now totaling a desktop of 3360×1050 so if you so the maths, I’m a nerd. But my argument is that productivity improves considerably, which I have been experiencing over the past few days!

Portfolio Overhaul

For the last parts of spare time I’ve managed to put together a completely new portfolio. Looks different, performs better, and is very easy to update via XML. Which is awesome because I can finally update this one more often with new content! Expert.
